AIPL Joystreet
Nagpur, Maharashtra
A vibrant commercial complex designed to form an urban node.
Scope
Architecture + Interiors
Typology
Mixed Use
Area
7,57,320 sq ft.
Retail stores open onto the central street for maximum visibility.
Drawing from the dynamism of the Indian street, the pathway cuts through the built mass, opening onto a larger chowks that works as social node within the complex. The streets are planned to include vantage points that bring views of the adjoining green belt deep within the built mass. Retail spaces open onto the central pedestrian street, improving visibility for the multiple brands while also creating an engaging experience for users. The street takes visitors through retail spaces, restaurants, a food court, a multiplex and an entertainment centre. Large walls of graphic art further work to animate the space.
The street opens onto larger chowks designed to be interactive hubs.
In an attempt to draw the visitor in, the entrance is designed with a lowered height to achieve human scale, while a play of cuboidal structures with a composition of signage and lighting creates a distinct and intriguing facade. The street is detailed with paved flooring and a translucent polycarbonate roof with louvres that allow for a dynamic play of light and shadow in the interiors. The chowks, in turn, are roofed by tensile fabric roofs. The railings and false ceilings are designed as a cohesive design gesture, lining the sides of the street.
A process of collaboration.

AIPL Joystreet is a project that relooks at integrating private buildings into the urban experience. The design weaves movement through the site achieving a vibrant public node that at once increases footfall into the complex while adding to the urbanscape.
